The Way.

So, I’ve always banged on about wanting to walk the Camino.

It just so happens that the town we are staying in tonight is a popular starting point for pilgrims on their way to St Jean-pied-de-port to make their way over the Pyrenees then through the top of Spain to Santiago de Compostela.

These welcomed us into Carcassonne.
We only had 40kms today.
More locks. This lock house had a bar inside.
This one had lots of sculptures around. A nice hobby for the lock man whilst waiting for boats.
The path has been crushed granite or gravel nearly the whole way from Beziers. Our poor bikes are in need of a wash.
But the scenery has been beautiful.
Our hotel here in Carcassonne- Le Coeur de la Bastide.
We then proceeded to La Cite. Where you can channel your inner knight.

First of all, I’ll concede that the city walls and towers are, without a doubt, magnificent. Carcassonne is well worth a one-hour stroll to appreciate some of the most remarkably intact old fortifications you’ll ever see.

It feels more like a dystopian Disney theme park than a real place where real history unfolded. Any shops that aren’t selling fake medieval paraphernalia are churning out waffles and ice cream on an industrial scale. But, hey, if that’s your idea of fun. You’ll love it.
He really did want this sword.
A moated chateau inside the fortress.
After wandering around for a couple of hours we couldn’t wait to get out of there.
We found another art gallery on our way home.
It was in an old Chapelle.

Post note:

Robin Hood – Prince of Theives (the one with Kevin Costner) used The Cite in the movie. I’m watching it now while writing this. 🏹
