Hello Austria!

We left Germany and entered Austria. We actually took ‘an alternative route’ (from my Danube cycle book) into Austria by crossing the river from the North side. (Don’t ask ok.🤷🏻‍♀️) but hey, it was all heading in the right direction. South East.

And it was an unbelievable track all day. Right next to the river and sealed. We were flying along – sometimes at 25kms an hour!

Passau 7am
A cruise ship was coming into town.
A nice time of the day.
It was spectacular.
Just after this town we crossed the river by ferry.
The Jochenstein hydro electric dam.
A nice spot – just before we had to cross the river by ferry again.
We would have waited here for a while…
If I didn’t work out we had to ring the bell for the ferryman to come over and pick us up.
It’s a f#*@ing goat!!!
Coming into Aschach 69kms later – there was a boat building museum. This particular boat carried cargo and used horses along the bank to pull it. It was steered with an oar off the back. 10m x 4m wide.

It’s a town that was first connected with winemaking back in 777. Then thanks to its ash tree population – perfect for ship building, the town grew to become one of the most important shipbuilding locations on the Danube.

This is our place for tonight.
It still 29degrees.
Perfect weather for gelato.
