We had a big excursion to Gallipoli peninsula. The day started at 6.30am and finished at 8.30. But it was so worth it.

Our Turkish guide Ibo was good fun, but also really knowledgeable about the whole ANZAC campaign from both sides.
The Australian cemetery.
Lone Pine.

Simpson became famous as “the man with the donkey” for his heroic and compassionate work as a stretcher-bearer at Gallipoli.
Anzac Cove beach.
I remember taking a photo of this when I was here in 1992.
One of the ANZAC trenches.
Ibo explaining how the Kiwis and British took the strategic high point of Chunuk.
Ibo was wandering around kicking the dirt.
Then he picked up this schrapnel & barbed wire.
The Turks memorial.
NZ memorial.
The NZ memorial. Dad’s Great Uncle Richard Jones is buried here.

The following day we moved across the river to Beyoğlu in Istanbul for a change of scenery.

But first we had our morning walk around. This is Hagia Sophia Mosque.
The Topkapi Palace walls.
Entrance gates to palace.
Unfortunately, we ran out of time to go through the Palace. We’ve put in on our list for next time we’re here.
New ‘local coffee shop’ in Beyoğlu.
The city is very hilly and there are stairs everywhere. Especially over this side.
We found a ‘rooftop’ bar.
Which was really only good for looking at… rooftops
& showing us where we have walked through different areas of the city. ‘We certainly cover some ground!’
A couple of early morning snaps.
Today was spent down at Galataport. ( The cats are everywhere.)
It felt a lot like Barrangaroo.
A dessert called Kunefe. A crispy threaded pastry soaked in syrup with cheese, frozen ice cream & pistachio.
(It actually wasn’t bad)

We were sitting down enjoying the scenery…

Until this floating city turned up and blocked half the view.
So that’s it for Turkey.🇹🇷 🦃

We just flew back into Bucharest. Tomorrow we have another tour planned. Then we’ll collect our bikes from the Boys at Giant Bucharest who have been so kind to store them for us. After that, Athens.👍🏻

Happy 25th Zali darling.
